How to Replace audi key fob an audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. Test them out to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know both the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or an unfire when in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially in the case of an Bosch model like ours. 5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues in your car. The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points.
