How to Replace an audi key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothes-is-indoo-2021-12-27-15-52-03-utc-min-scaled.jpgCharles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are various pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, replacement audi keys (q.044300.net) 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. Test them out by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

Some of the symptoms of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems in your car. It is an important part of the transmission in your key audi, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission, as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process the signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the Replacement audi a4 key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find them in wrecking yards.Mitsubishi-Motors-New.png
